The Ministry of Civil Aviation on February 28, 2026 conducted a comprehensive review of aviation preparedness in view of the evolving situation in the Middle East and its potential implications for international air operations.
The Civil Aviation Minister convened a high level meeting through video conference with the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, senior ministry officials, the Airports Authority of India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, airline operators and major airport operators across the country. The review focused on safeguarding passenger safety, maintaining operational continuity and ensuring real time coordination in response to multiple airspace restrictions and Notices to Airmen issued in parts of the region.
Indian carriers operating international services have been advised to closely monitor airspace advisories, Notices to Airmen and route restrictions issued by the relevant authorities. Airlines have been directed to undertake timely rerouting or diversion of flights wherever required, strictly in accordance with international safety standards and established contingency planning procedures.
Airports across India, particularly major international gateways, have been placed on heightened operational alert to manage potential flight diversions, unscheduled landings and associated passenger facilitation requirements. The Airports Authority of India and private airport operators have been instructed to enhance coordination with airlines to ensure availability of ground handling services, parking bays, passenger amenities, crew logistics and immigration support as necessary.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been advised to remain in close coordination with airlines to ensure full compliance with safety regulations, crew duty time limitations and all operational advisories. Continuous monitoring mechanisms are being activated to assess evolving airspace dynamics and prevent cascading disruptions to domestic schedules.
The Ministry is also maintaining close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure seamless information flow and appropriate response in case of any emergent situation involving Indian carriers or Indian nationals abroad.
Passengers have been advised to remain in regular contact with their respective airlines for the latest travel updates and schedule changes. Airlines have been directed to proactively communicate with passengers regarding delays, rerouting or diversions to minimise inconvenience.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that passenger and crew safety remains paramount and affirmed that the situation is under constant watch, with further updates to be issued as necessary.
