The Defence Secretary visited the National Cadet Corps Republic Day Camp 2026 at Delhi Cantt on 17 January 2026 and interacted with cadets participating in the premier annual event. He congratulated the cadets for their vibrant and disciplined presentation, noting that their performance reflected India’s rich cultural diversity and embodied the NCC motto of unity and discipline.
During his interaction, the Defence Secretary highlighted the National Cadet Corps’ enduring contribution over more than seven decades in shaping young citizens with values of discipline, selfless service and national pride. He observed that NCC has consistently played a vital role in nation building by preparing youth to contribute meaningfully to society while fostering leadership, resilience and civic responsibility.
He commended NCC cadets for their exemplary courage and commitment during civil defence duties under Operation Sindoor and acknowledged their significant contributions to public initiatives including the Yamuna cleanup campaign, blood donation drives and relief operations during the Wayanad floods in Kerala. The Defence Secretary also praised the cadets’ achievements in competitive sports such as shooting, hockey and equestrian events, highlighting the organisation’s emphasis on holistic development.
Emphasising the importance of adventure training, he appreciated NCC’s focus on activities such as mountaineering, sailing and parachuting, stating that these experiences instil physical fitness, mental toughness, teamwork and perseverance among the youth. He noted that such exposure channels youthful energy in positive directions while preparing cadets for future leadership roles.
In his concluding remarks, the Defence Secretary said that the values imbibed through the NCC remain with cadets throughout their lives and help shape responsible leaders who think clearly, act justly and uphold integrity. Referring to the cadets as architects of a developed India, he urged them to remain humble, courageous, curious and steadfast in their commitment to national ideals.
As part of the visit, the Defence Secretary was briefed on the Flag Area, which showcased social awareness themes, and the Hall of Fame, where cadets presented the history and achievements of the NCC. He also witnessed static and functional ship and aero modelling displays, demonstrating the cadets’ creativity, technical skills and innovative thinking.
