Global Dance Overture unites India and Russia on one stage in New Delhi

Sangeet Natak Akademi, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is presenting Global Dance Overture, an international cultural and educational collaboration between India and Russia, in New Delhi on March 3, 2026.

The grand joint stage performance will be held at 7 pm at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, bringing together the Russian National Ballet Kostroma and the Indian production Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam in a single evening of artistic exchange.

Global Dance Overture is designed as a celebration of the rich artistic traditions of both nations. The performance will showcase the Russian National Ballet Kostroma, known worldwide for its large scale choreographic productions that portray the history, culture and spirit of Russia through dance. The ensemble’s repertoire combines classical technique with theatrical grandeur and vibrant folk elements.

The Russian presentation will be complemented by Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam, reflecting the dynamism and diversity of India’s dance heritage. The Indian production highlights the country’s folk vitality and contemporary stagecraft, offering audiences a sweeping visual narrative rooted in tradition yet expressed through modern theatrical language.

By bringing these two distinct traditions together on one platform, the event seeks to create a dialogue of cultures that symbolises the longstanding cultural friendship between India and Russia. The initiative goes beyond performance to serve as a platform for cultural exchange, educational engagement and deeper mutual understanding between artists and audiences of the two countries.

The collaboration underscores the role of performing arts as a bridge across borders, demonstrating how dance can transcend language and geography to foster shared appreciation and artistic synergy.

Global Dance Overture is open to art enthusiasts, students, scholars and connoisseurs, offering them an opportunity to witness a rare confluence of Russian and Indian stage traditions in the national capital.
