India and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen cooperation in the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises sector and promote sustainable growth, marking a significant step in expanding bilateral economic collaboration.
The agreement was signed between the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, and the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Micro and Small Enterprises of the Federative Republic of Brazil during the official visit of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to India.
The MoU establishes a structured platform for dialogue and cooperation on issues concerning Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in both countries. It aims to facilitate exchange of information, institutional engagement and exploration of mutually beneficial areas of collaboration across sectors relevant to MSMEs.
Under the framework of the agreement, both sides will work towards creating an enabling environment for enterprises to better understand each other’s strengths, markets, technologies and policy frameworks. The MoU is expected to encourage knowledge sharing, capacity building and greater integration of MSMEs into bilateral and global value chains.
A key focus of the agreement is advancing the green transition within the MSME ecosystem. The MoU seeks to create enabling conditions to support sustainable production practices and facilitate MSMEs’ access to green finance. By strengthening financial and policy support for environmentally responsible business models, both countries aim to improve productivity, competitiveness and long term sustainability of small enterprises.
Officials indicated that the agreement reflects the shared commitment of India and Brazil to inclusive economic growth, innovation and sustainable development. MSMEs play a critical role in employment generation, industrial output and exports in both countries. Strengthening cooperation in this sector is expected to open new opportunities for entrepreneurship, technology partnerships and sustainable business expansion.
The MoU is also aligned with broader India Brazil economic engagement and complements ongoing efforts to enhance trade, investment and sectoral collaboration between the two countries.
The signing of the agreement during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit underscores the priority both nations attach to MSME development as a driver of economic resilience, green growth and long term bilateral partnership.
