India Israel Fisheries Partnership Deepens Through Blue Food Security Engagement

A high level Indian delegation led by the Union Minister of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying concluded an official visit to Israel from 13 to 15 January 2026 with substantive outcomes that strengthen bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture. The visit centred on participation in the Second Global Summit on Blue Food Security Sea the Future 2026 held in Eilat and marked an important step in advancing collaboration between the two countries in sustainable blue economy practices.

During the opening plenary of the summit the Indian delegation engaged with senior members of the Israeli government alongside global counterparts from multiple regions. Ministers and senior delegates from Africa Europe West Asia and Asia participated reflecting the summit’s role as a key international platform on food security marine resources and aquaculture innovation.

India’s intervention at the Global Ministerial Panel on Food Security and the Blue Economy highlighted the country’s rapid progress in fisheries and aquaculture production export growth and employment generation. Emphasis was placed on India’s commitment to sustainability responsible resource management innovation driven growth and international cooperation to strengthen global food systems.

As part of the visit the delegation toured the Ag Tech Innovation Exhibition inaugurated by Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and interacted with startups and technology providers working across fisheries aquaculture marine biotechnology and blue food solutions. These interactions underscored the growing role of advanced technologies in improving productivity resilience and environmental sustainability.

Bilateral discussions with the Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Food Security focused on expanding cooperation through trade capacity building startup exchanges joint research and development sharing of best practices and collaboration in mariculture and allied areas. Meetings were also held with ministers from other participating countries to explore wider partnerships in fisheries development and knowledge exchange.

A major outcome of the visit was the signing of a Joint Ministerial Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in Fisheries and Aquaculture between India and Israel. The declaration formalises mutual intent to collaborate in technology and innovation sustainable fishing practices capacity building and trade and provides the framework for establishing joint centres of excellence to support long term institutional cooperation.

The delegation also held discussions with the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development of Ghana on strengthening bilateral engagement focused on sustainable growth and technical collaboration. In parallel meetings with leading Israeli companies explored advanced solutions in water efficient aquaculture RNA based shrimp health and biosecurity technologies and microalgae applications for hatchery productivity and seed quality.

Visits to the National Centre for Mariculture in Eilat and the SeaNovation Innovation Center provided insights into Israel’s research and innovation ecosystem in marine aquaculture. Discussions covered broodstock development hatchery technologies integrated multi trophic aquaculture models disease management and pathways for adapting advanced solutions to Indian conditions through joint research.

The visit reflects the deepening strategic and economic partnership between India and Israel and reinforces shared priorities in fisheries and aquaculture development. The outcomes are expected to open new avenues for collaboration in research innovation capacity building and sustainable blue economy growth benefiting both countries.
