India Post Launches Time Definite Delivery Services Across Major Cities

Union Minister for Communications and DoNER Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Tuesday launched three new time definite express delivery services of India Post, marking a significant push towards modernising the country’s logistics ecosystem and strengthening its role in fast growing delivery networks.

The new services 24 Speed Post 48 Speed Post and 24 Speed Post Parcel were unveiled in New Delhi in the presence of Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani along with senior officials including Jitendra Gupta Director General Vandita Kaul Secretary Posts and Harpreet Singh Member Operations.

Addressing the gathering, Jyotiraditya M Scindia described the launch as a transformative moment for the Department of Posts, stating that the initiative reflects a renewed commitment to delivering efficient and reliable services to citizens and businesses across the country as well as international customers. He said the rollout signals the transition of India Post into a modern logistics entity aligned with the country’s growth trajectory.

He highlighted that the services were introduced after extensive pilot testing over the past three months across multiple operational environments, where performance benchmarks were successfully met. The nationwide rollout, he said, demonstrates the department’s readiness to deliver faster, predictable and technology driven logistics solutions.

Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani noted that for more than 170 years, the Department of Posts has served as a vital communication backbone, and is now evolving to support India’s economic expansion by enabling faster and more reliable movement of goods and services from rural regions to global markets.

The newly launched 24 Speed Post and 24 Speed Post Parcel services offer guaranteed next day delivery between six major metro cities New Delhi Mumbai Chennai Kolkata Bengaluru and Hyderabad. These services ensure assured timelines with compensation in case of delay, along with real time tracking and OTP based delivery confirmation to enhance transparency and reliability.

Deliveries under these services will be carried out on Sundays and holidays except national holidays, providing extended operational coverage. The services are initially available in the six metro cities and will be expanded to Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in a phased manner.

The 48 Speed Post service offers guaranteed delivery within two days between the same metro cities. It is designed primarily for document delivery and provides end to end tracking SMS alerts and secure delivery confirmation, catering to both institutional and individual requirements.

Live demonstrations of the services were conducted simultaneously at post offices in Hyderabad Delhi Mumbai and Bengaluru during the launch event, marking the operational start of the services across key locations.

The Department of Posts stated that these offerings are aimed at meeting the growing demand for fast and secure delivery solutions from e commerce companies MSMEs startups government organisations financial institutions and individual users.

By introducing assured delivery timelines and technology enabled tracking systems, the department aims to strengthen its position in the premium express delivery segment and compete more effectively in the logistics market.

Officials said the initiative is aligned with the broader vision of building a robust logistics infrastructure to support economic growth and improve service delivery standards across the country.

The launch reinforces the Department of Posts role as a trusted national logistics partner and reflects its ongoing transformation into a modern service provider capable of supporting India’s expanding digital and commercial ecosystem.
