IREDA Charts Expansion Plans as MNRE Pushes Stronger Financing for MSMEs and PM Surya Ghar

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency marked the beginning of 2026 with a New Year get together in New Delhi, using the occasion to outline an ambitious growth agenda aligned with national renewable energy priorities. The event, held at the India Habitat Centre, brought together senior officials from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and leaders of key public sector institutions, reinforcing a shared commitment to accelerating clean energy financing across the country.

The gathering was attended by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, along with J V N Subramanyam, Joint Secretary of the ministry. Senior executives from IREDA and allied institutions, including the Chairman and Managing Director of IREDA, the Director Finance of IREDA, and the Chairman and Managing Director of HUDCO, were also present, along with officers and employees of the agency.

Addressing employees, the MNRE Secretary underlined the strategic importance of IREDA in supporting India’s renewable energy transition. He called for a stronger IREDA led financing push for micro small and medium enterprises, which are increasingly emerging as critical contributors to the clean energy value chain. Emphasis was also placed on scaling up financial support for flagship initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar, which aims to expand rooftop solar adoption and enhance energy access for households. The ministry assured full institutional support to IREDA as it continues to expand its operations and deepen its role in driving renewable energy deployment.

The Secretary highlighted the importance of team building, leadership development and nurturing young professionals within the organisation, stressing that a future ready workforce would be essential to meet the growing demand for green finance and to manage the increasing complexity of renewable energy projects.

Welcoming the guests and employees, the Chairman and Managing Director of IREDA extended New Year greetings and shared key organisational milestones. He noted that IREDA’s workforce had expanded from 168 employees at the beginning of 2025 to 227 employees in 2026, reflecting the agency’s growing scale of operations. Women now account for around 23 per cent of the workforce, significantly higher than the average representation in central public sector enterprises, underscoring IREDA’s emphasis on inclusive growth and progressive human resource practices.

The leadership also highlighted the agency’s robust financial performance. As of December 31, 2025, IREDA had recorded cumulative loan sanctions of ₹2,78,016 crore, cumulative disbursements of ₹1,80,988 crore and a loan book of ₹87,975 crore on a provisional basis. The organisation achieved its highest ever annual profit after tax of ₹1,699 crore in the financial year 2024–25 and secured an international credit rating upgrade from S and P Global Ratings, strengthening its credibility in global financial markets.

The Director Finance, in the concluding address, acknowledged the contribution of employees to the agency’s growth and encouraged continued adherence to high standards of governance, transparency and operational efficiency. He emphasised that disciplined financial management and collective effort would remain central to sustaining IREDA’s expansion and supporting India’s clean energy ambitions.

The New Year gathering reflected IREDA’s renewed focus on expanding access to green finance, strengthening support for MSMEs and flagship renewable energy schemes, and aligning institutional growth with the national goal of a sustainable and self reliant energy future.
