NSQC Reviews 58 Skill Qualifications in 47th Meeting

The 47th meeting of the National Skills Qualifications Committee was held under the chairpersonship of Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chairperson, National Council for Vocational Education and Training. The Committee undertook a comprehensive review of qualifications submitted by NCVET recognised Awarding Bodies and deliberated on revisions, extensions and updates to existing qualifications, National Occupational Standards and Micro Credentials.

The meeting was attended by Ashok Kumar Gaba, Executive Member, NCVET; Suhas Deshmukh, Director and Secretary to the Council; members of the NSQC representing Central Ministries and Departments including the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Labour and Employment; sector experts; and other key stakeholders.

A total of 13 Awarding Bodies presented their qualifications before the Committee. In all, 58 Qualifications, National Occupational Standards and Micro Credentials were examined. These were submitted by organisations including NASSCOM, Automotive Skills Development Council, Skill Council for Green Jobs, Home Management and Care Givers Sector Skill Council, Management and Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council, Infrastructure Equipment Skill Council, Confederation of Indian Industry, Skill Council for Mining Sector, C DAC, Sector Skill Council for Food Processing Industries, Logistics Sector Skill Council, Orion Education Society and Directorate General of Training.

During the deliberations, the Committee assessed the industry relevance, alignment with the National Skills Qualification Framework and responsiveness of the proposed qualifications to emerging economic and technological trends. Discussions focused on ensuring that the skilling ecosystem remains adaptive, quality driven and aligned with both domestic employment needs and global benchmarks.

Addressing the meeting, Debashree Mukherjee emphasised the critical responsibility of the National Skills Qualifications Committee in safeguarding the integrity, coherence and future readiness of India’s skills qualification architecture. She noted that the extensive discussions and decisions taken reflect the Government’s commitment to strengthening both short term and long term skilling programmes and building a workforce aligned with evolving industry requirements.

The Committee also examined the integration of emerging themes such as Artificial Intelligence, multi skilling and sustainability within the skilling framework. The revised Employability Skills module now incorporates components on greening and Artificial Intelligence to better prepare trainees under the Craftsmen Training Scheme and other programmes for a technology driven and environmentally responsible economy.

By aligning qualification standards with industry needs, technological advancement and sustainability priorities, the 47th meeting of the National Skills Qualifications Committee reaffirmed the focus on creating a skilled, adaptable and globally competitive workforce capable of supporting India’s economic transformation.
