Prime Minister Praises Commissioning of Residue Upgradation Facility at Visakh Refinery

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the successful commissioning of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Residue Upgradation Facility at the Visakh Refinery in Andhra Pradesh, calling it a decisive step in India’s pursuit of energy security and self-reliance.

The Prime Minister said the state-of-the-art facility would significantly strengthen the country’s energy independence by enabling more efficient and value-added processing of refinery residues. He noted that the commissioning aligns closely with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and underlines India’s commitment to building robust domestic energy infrastructure.

Responding on social media to a post by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the Prime Minister said the new facility adds fresh momentum to India’s efforts to enhance energy security and reduce dependence on external sources. He described the project as an important milestone in making the energy sector self-reliant and future-ready.

The Residue Upgradation Facility at the Visakh Refinery is designed to improve the conversion of heavy residues into high-value petroleum products, increasing operational efficiency and supporting cleaner and more sustainable fuel production. The project is expected to play a key role in meeting rising domestic energy demand while strengthening India’s refining capabilities.

By commissioning the facility, HPCL has reinforced its contribution to national energy priorities, supporting economic growth, industrial resilience, and long-term energy stability.
