Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the milestone of 30 lakh households adopting rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, calling it a significant step in India’s clean energy transition and a testament to growing public participation in renewable energy.
Hailing the achievement, the Prime Minister described it as a commendable milestone in the country’s journey toward sustainable development and energy security. He congratulated the beneficiaries who have embraced rooftop solar installations, noting that the initiative is enabling households to reduce electricity expenses while contributing to environmental sustainability and national self-reliance.
In a social media response to a post by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, the Prime Minister said the rapid expansion of rooftop solar adoption reflects the collective resolve to build an energy-secure, green and future-ready India. He emphasized that the PM Surya Ghar scheme forms a crucial component of the Government’s broader strategy to accelerate renewable energy deployment and decentralize power generation.
The adoption of rooftop solar by 30 lakh households marks a major scaling-up of distributed renewable energy across urban and rural India. The initiative supports individual consumers in generating their own electricity, reducing dependence on conventional power sources, and lowering carbon emissions.
Officials said the scheme not only strengthens household-level energy independence but also reduces pressure on the grid during peak demand periods. By promoting localized clean energy generation, the programme advances India’s long-term climate commitments while delivering direct financial savings to citizens.
The Prime Minister underlined that rooftop solar power contributes to three key national priorities — affordability, sustainability and self-reliance. As more households integrate solar systems, the cumulative environmental and economic impact is expected to expand significantly.
The milestone reinforces the Government’s push toward expanding renewable capacity and promoting citizen-led participation in clean energy adoption. With steady momentum in installations, the PM Surya Ghar scheme is emerging as a central pillar in India’s transition to a low-carbon energy future.
