Air Commodore B S Vijay Rao takes command of Base Repair Depot Palam

Air Commodore B S Vijay Rao assumed command of Base Repair Depot Palam in New Delhi as the Air Officer Commanding on March 1, 2026.

Commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineering Electronics Branch of the Indian Air Force on November 27, 1995, Air Commodore B S Vijay Rao brings over three decades of service experience spanning operational, technical and strategic domains. An Electrical Engineer by qualification and holding an Executive MBA, he is also an alumnus of the National Defence College and the Army War College.

Over the course of his career, he has held a range of key field, staff and project management appointments. These include serving as Chief Engineering Officer of a premier operational base, where he oversaw engineering operations and maintenance management. He has also held significant assignments at Air Headquarters in the Operations, Maintenance and Plans branches, contributing to modernisation initiatives, acquisition processes and long term sustainment programmes of the Indian Air Force.

Air Commodore B S Vijay Rao has represented the Indian Air Force in professional assignments abroad and has played an active role in major upgrade and technology transfer programmes in collaboration with global aerospace organisations. His experience encompasses advanced avionics systems, engineering management and capability enhancement projects aimed at strengthening operational readiness.

He is a recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal, awarded by the President of India in recognition of distinguished service.

The change of command at Base Repair Depot Palam marks a significant transition in leadership at one of the key maintenance and repair establishments supporting Indian Air Force operations.
