The Ministry of Steel convened a high level interactive session with senior diplomats from across the world in New Delhi on March 2, 2026 to deepen strategic cooperation in the steel sector and outline preparations for its flagship international event, Bharat Steel 2026.
The session brought together representatives of multiple countries and international partners to discuss opportunities for collaboration in steel production, technology, supply chains and sustainability. Addressing the diplomatic community, the Secretary, Ministry of Steel highlighted the central role of the steel industry in driving India’s industrial growth, infrastructure expansion and overall economic transformation.
He outlined India’s ambitious capacity expansion roadmap, with targets of achieving 300 million tonnes by 2030 and 400 million tonnes by 2035, positioning the country as a leading global steel producer. The Secretary emphasised that this growth trajectory will be supported by modernisation, technological advancement and sustainable practices.
Poundrik underscored the rapid transformation underway in the domestic steel industry, particularly its shift towards low carbon production pathways and advanced process technologies. He invited global partners to collaborate with India in areas such as green steel production, raw material security, technology transfer and research and development. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to building resilient and sustainable global supply chains anchored in innovation, efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The meeting also provided a preview of Bharat Steel 2026, an international conference cum exhibition scheduled to be held on April 16 and 17, 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event is expected to serve as a premier global platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships in the steel sector.
India’s strategy for the upcoming summit focuses on strengthening access to critical raw materials, accelerating adoption of cleaner technologies, advancing sustainable steel manufacturing and fostering long term global collaboration.
Diplomatic representatives participating in the session expressed appreciation for India’s forward looking vision in the steel sector and conveyed interest in active participation in Bharat Steel 2026. The Ministry indicated that the summit will aim to catalyse innovation, investment and international cooperation in line with evolving global sustainability and supply chain priorities.
