Ayush Exports Gain Momentum as Export Promotion Council Marks Fourth Anniversary

The Ayush Export Promotion Council observed its fourth establishment anniversary in New Delhi, marking steady progress in India’s efforts to promote exports of traditional systems of medicine and wellness products and to strengthen the country’s position in the global health and wellness economy.

Since its formation, the Council has undertaken a wide range of initiatives focused on capacity building of exporters, facilitation of export procedures, regulatory compliance and market access. These efforts include organising business to business meetings, participation in international exhibitions, seminars and targeted outreach programmes in key overseas markets to connect Indian manufacturers with global buyers and regulators.

Ayush and herbal product exports recorded a growth of 6.11 per cent during 2024–25, rising from USD 64.92 million in 2023–24 to USD 68.89 million. The accelerated growth following the establishment of the Council reflects enhanced international outreach, structured export facilitation measures and growing global demand for India’s traditional medicine and wellness products.

India’s traditional medicine systems have also received formal recognition in major bilateral trade agreements. Dedicated provisions on health related services and traditional medicine have been included in agreements such as the India Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the India New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, opening new opportunities for market expansion and regulatory alignment. The Council has been entrusted with anchoring the Ayush Quality Mark programme of the Ministry of Ayush, which was launched by the Prime Minister during the second World Health Organization Summit on Traditional Medicine held in December 2025. The initiative marks a significant milestone in strengthening quality assurance, certification and global credibility of Ayush products.

As the Council enters its fifth year, its priorities include expanding international cooperation, leveraging opportunities under free trade agreements, strengthening quality and certification frameworks and enhancing global acceptance of India’s traditional systems of medicine. These efforts align with national objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, while supporting sustainable growth of exports.

The Ayush Export Promotion Council was registered as a Section 8 company on 4 January 2022 and was formally launched during the Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit held in Gandhinagar in April 2022. It was notified by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade in July 2023 as the nodal export promotion council for the Ayush sector. The Council functions in consultation with the Ministry of Ayush, with support from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and oversees exports related to Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, Homeopathy and other Indian traditional healthcare systems.

The anniversary highlights India’s expanding leadership in the global Ayush and wellness space and reflects the growing international confidence in the quality, safety and efficacy of India’s traditional medicine systems.
