The Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region inaugurated six renovated and modernised post offices across Madhya Pradesh and announced the establishment of a National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri with an estimated investment of ₹111 crore, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening postal infrastructure, human resource capacity and time-bound public service delivery.

The inaugurations were carried out during the Minister’s official visit to Madhya Pradesh from January 8 to 11, 2026. The upgraded facilities include Sub Post Offices at Kolaras, Jagatpura, Badarwas, Pichhore and Katthamil, along with the City Post Office. Equipped with improved customer amenities, the modernised offices offer a comprehensive range of postal services, including mail and parcel delivery, savings and insurance schemes, digital services and financial inclusion initiatives. The upgrades are expected to enhance operational efficiency and expand service outreach, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas.

Addressing a public function at Katthamil in Shivpuri district, the Minister said the occasion marked not only the inauguration of improved postal facilities but also a major step in strengthening the national postal training ecosystem. He noted that the Department of Posts currently operates six Postal Training Centres at Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai and Darbhanga, which together train around 2,000 personnel annually and have so far trained nearly 18,000 officials and employees.

Announcing the seventh National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri, the Minister said the new institution would place the district alongside the country’s premier postal training hubs. Citing the timely completion of recent infrastructure projects, he set a target of completing the Shivpuri centre within eight to twelve months and directed senior postal officials to expedite execution. He added that the foundation stone would be laid during his next visit, followed by inauguration within the stipulated timeframe.

During a separate programme in Pichhore, Shivpuri district, the Minister also announced two upcoming India Post services, Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48. These services will offer guaranteed delivery within 24 hours and 48 hours respectively, setting new benchmarks for fast, reliable and time-bound postal delivery across the country.

On the same occasion, the renovated Pichhore Sub Post Office, upgraded at a cost of ₹2 lakh, was inaugurated, and the foundation stone was laid for a new Sub Post Office building to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1.11 crore.

The initiatives reflect the Department of Posts’ continued commitment to modernising infrastructure, leveraging technology to strengthen last-mile connectivity, and supporting the government’s vision of responsive, accessible and efficient public service delivery.
