Dr Jitendra Singh Calls For Locally Driven Development Proposals During Mizoram Delegation Meeting

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Independent Charge of multiple key departments, Dr Jitendra Singh, has emphasised the need for development proposals that are firmly rooted in local realities while reviewing community level initiatives submitted by a Mizoram delegation in New Delhi.

The delegation, led by Mizoram MLA Dr K Beichhua, called on Dr Jitendra Singh and submitted a detailed memorandum seeking support for community focused development projects in the state, including consideration of Corporate Social Responsibility proposals. State General Secretary and former member of the BJP National Minority Morcha, Delson, was also part of the delegation.

The memorandum included a project proposal prepared by the Social Amelioration Society, which aims to address specific social and economic challenges through structured, community level interventions. Dr Beichhua highlighted the importance of supplementary support for development efforts in regions such as Mizoram, where geographical conditions and socio economic factors often require tailored solutions.

The representation recommended that the proposal be considered under the focus areas of public sector undertakings, noting that CSR support could strengthen implementation capacity while promoting inclusive growth and active community participation.

During the interaction, Dr Jitendra Singh gave a patient hearing to the delegation and took note of the objectives and intended beneficiaries of the proposed initiatives. He underlined that well conceived proposals aligned with local needs and consistent with established CSR frameworks are essential for effective outcomes. The Minister observed that CSR initiatives can play a constructive and complementary role in advancing development when implemented in accordance with laid down guidelines.

The meeting reflected the continued engagement of elected representatives from the North Eastern region with the Union Government on development related initiatives and highlighted the growing role of CSR as a supportive mechanism alongside government programmes.

Dr Jitendra Singh also reiterated the high priority accorded to the North Eastern region by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the Prime Minister has visited the Northeast, including Mizoram, close to 80 times, which he said may be more than the combined visits of all previous Prime Ministers, underscoring the Centre’s sustained focus on the region’s development.
