The National Textiles Ministers Conference concluded in Guwahati on 9 January 2026 after two days of wide ranging deliberations focused on strengthening India’s textile ecosystem through innovation sustainability heritage preservation and export growth.
The conference saw participation from ministers and senior officials from states and union territories across the country. Addressing the concluding session Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita said the discussions covered critical aspects of the textile sector and expressed confidence that the outcomes would lead to a clear and actionable roadmap for achieving the vision of positioning India as a global textile hub.
Deliberations on the second day centred on expanding exports enhancing competitiveness and strengthening branding of Indian textiles. Discussions between the Centre and states focused on aligning expectations policy support and strategic interventions to achieve the target of 100 billion dollars in textile exports by 2030.
A key session was devoted to traditional textiles handlooms and handicrafts with participants emphasising the need to preserve India’s rich textile heritage while ensuring improved market access value addition branding and sustainable livelihoods for artisans and weavers. The need for convergence of schemes design innovation and use of digital platforms to enhance income generation and global outreach was strongly highlighted.
Ministers and senior officials underscored the importance of close collaboration between the Centre and states to unlock the sector’s full potential. States were encouraged to effectively leverage flagship schemes of the Ministry of Textiles aimed at infrastructure development technology upgradation skill enhancement and sustainability driven growth.
The two day Centre State dialogue marked an important step towards deeper policy coordination investment promotion and holistic development of the textile sector. The conference concluded with a shared commitment to work collectively to strengthen value chains boost exports and reinforce India’s position as a competitive and resilient global textile powerhouse.
