Prasar Bharati has strengthened monitoring of digital platforms to safeguard copyright of content produced or commissioned by the public broadcaster while launching a new initiative titled Creators Corner to encourage socially relevant and culturally rich programming on Doordarshan.
Information submitted in the Rajya Sabha on March 13 in a written reply to Tiruchi Siva by L Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, said Prasar Bharati holds the copyright for all content produced or commissioned by it.
According to the information provided in Parliament, no recent cases of copyright violation by media production houses have been reported. However, instances of copyright infringement by individual users on intermediary digital platforms are regularly monitored and addressed by the public broadcaster.
The government informed that no instances of sub contracting of production work have come to the notice of Prasar Bharati. As a safeguard, provisions restricting sub contracting have been incorporated in agreements signed with production companies to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and maintain the integrity of commissioned content.
Prasar Bharati has also launched the Creators Corner initiative under Doordarshan as part of its efforts to engage digital content creators and expand the reach of public service broadcasting.
The initiative aims to encourage creators to produce and disseminate socially relevant content while also highlighting India’s vibrant culture and rich heritage. Through this platform, Doordarshan seeks to collaborate with emerging creators who can contribute meaningful programming aligned with the broadcaster’s public service mandate.
For selection under Creators Corner, the submitted content must meet defined quality standards and comply with the Programme and Advertising Codes of Prasar Bharati as well as all applicable laws. Content creators must also demonstrate a reasonable digital reach on at least one major social media platform.
Creators selected under the initiative are remunerated based on duration based rates prescribed by Prasar Bharati.
The initiative is expected to widen the broadcaster’s engagement with digital creators while strengthening the dissemination of culturally significant and socially relevant programming across platforms.
