The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on February 28, 2026 organised a farewell ceremony to mark the retirement of Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. On the occasion, Shivraj Singh Chouhan honoured Devesh Chaturvedi for his service and formally welcomed Atish Chandra as the newly appointed Agriculture Secretary.
Addressing the gathering, Shivraj Singh Chouhan described Devesh Chaturvedi’s administrative tenure as long, dedicated and impactful. He said that even in challenging circumstances, Devesh Chaturvedi maintained a balanced approach and provided fresh direction and renewed momentum to the Ministry. He noted that his leadership qualities, problem solving ability and emphasis on teamwork strengthened transparency and efficiency in the Ministry’s functioning.
Calling his tenure exemplary, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said Devesh Chaturvedi worked with commitment and foresight, ensuring that key initiatives of the Ministry were implemented effectively and within stipulated timelines. He added that his administrative experience and clarity of vision significantly enhanced policy implementation and coordination within the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
During the ceremony, Shivraj Singh Chouhan presented Devesh Chaturvedi with a memento and bouquet as a mark of respect and extended his best wishes for the future. The gathering acknowledged his contribution to the agricultural sector and his service to farmers across the country.
Welcoming Atish Chandra, Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed confidence that under his leadership the Ministry would further strengthen its efforts in advancing farmers’ interests. He said Atish Chandra would build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor and help achieve more effective outcomes in agricultural growth and rural development.
The programme was attended by Shailesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, M L Jat, Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, along with senior officers and staff members of the Ministry.
