Tribal Homestay Owners Urged To Use Finance Schemes For Sustainable Growth

Financial empowerment of tribal tourism entrepreneurs took centre stage as T Roumuan Paite Chairman cum Managing Director National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation addressed a capacity building workshop for tribal homestay owners, highlighting concessional finance schemes aimed at strengthening livelihoods and enterprise development.

The workshop, held at Hotel Samrat in New Delhi, was jointly organised by the India Tourism Development Corporation and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, bringing together homestay owners and managers from Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

Focus On Financial Inclusion And Tribal Entrepreneurship

T Roumuan Paite outlined the mandate of the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation as an apex institution under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs dedicated to promoting socio economic and educational upliftment of Scheduled Tribes through concessional financial assistance.

He emphasised that tribal homestay enterprises represent sustainable and culturally rooted livelihood models and that such workshops play a critical role in bridging the gap between government schemes and grassroots beneficiaries.

He encouraged participants to actively leverage available financial schemes to expand and strengthen their enterprises, noting that access to affordable credit can significantly improve infrastructure, service quality and income generation.

Key Financial Schemes For Tribal Homestay Owners

The National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation highlighted several targeted schemes designed to support tribal tourism entrepreneurs:

Term Loan Scheme
Provides concessional financial assistance of up to 50 lakh per unit through State Channelizing Agencies, public sector banks and regional rural banks. The scheme supports infrastructure development, renovation and expansion of homestay facilities.

Adivasi Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojana
A women focused initiative offering loans at a concessional interest rate of 4 percent per annum, financing up to 90 percent of the project cost without requiring promoter contribution, aimed at empowering Scheduled Tribe women entrepreneurs.

Micro Credit Scheme for Self Help Groups
Enables tribal self help groups to access credit for collective income generating activities such as hospitality services, community kitchens, cultural programmes and traditional crafts.

Strengthening Outreach And Institutional Linkages

T Roumuan Paite highlighted that the corporation is expanding its outreach through partnerships and general loan agreements with state agencies, ensuring wider access to financial services across regions.

He urged participants to engage with State Channelizing Agencies and Tribal Development Corporations to avail financial support and scale their businesses.

He underscored that the schemes are designed to promote economic self reliance, enhance creditworthiness and build competitiveness among tribal entrepreneurs, particularly in the growing tourism sector.

The workshop forms part of broader efforts to promote community led tourism as a driver of inclusive growth, with a focus on preserving indigenous culture while generating sustainable livelihoods.

T Roumuan Paite emphasised that tribal homestays not only provide economic opportunities but also serve as a gateway to India’s cultural heritage, and that financial support mechanisms are crucial to ensure that local communities benefit from tourism growth.

The initiative reflects a coordinated approach to integrating financial inclusion, skill development and entrepreneurship to strengthen tribal participation in the tourism economy.
