Centre Assures Mustard Price Support And Full Tur Procurement For Madhya Pradesh Farmers

Key decisions aimed at strengthening farmer welfare and agricultural support in Madhya Pradesh were taken during a high level meeting between Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, in New Delhi on Thursday.

The meeting focused on several important issues concerning agriculture, rural development and farmer support schemes in the state. Prahlad Patel, Rural Development Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and senior officials from the concerned departments also participated in the discussions.

Approval For Mustard Price Difference Payment

One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the approval of the price difference payment scheme for mustard procurement in Madhya Pradesh.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the proposal submitted by the Madhya Pradesh government and directed the concerned departments to expedite the implementation and payment process.

The decision addresses long pending issues related to mustard procurement in the state and is expected to provide significant relief to mustard farmers who had been awaiting support under the scheme.

Under the price difference payment mechanism, farmers are compensated when market prices fall below the government notified benchmark price, ensuring that they receive fair returns for their produce.

Officials said the approval will enable the state government to implement the payment process in a time bound manner and deliver financial relief to farmers cultivating mustard across the state.

Government Assures Full Procurement Of Tur

During the meeting, Shivraj Singh Chouhan also handed over an official letter to Mohan Yadav confirming approval for one hundred percent procurement of tur, also known as pigeon pea, produced in Madhya Pradesh.

The decision ensures that the entire tur crop produced by farmers in the state will be procured through government mechanisms, protecting farmers from market price fluctuations and ensuring stable income.

The assurance of full procurement is expected to strengthen farmer confidence in pulse cultivation and support the broader objective of increasing domestic pulse production.

Detailed Review Of Agricultural And Rural Development Schemes

The meeting also included a comprehensive review of several agriculture and rural development programmes being implemented in Madhya Pradesh.

Among the key issues discussed were price difference payments related to mustard and soybean, additional targets for moong and urad under the National Pulses Mission, and implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana crop insurance scheme.

Discussions also covered soil health and fertility programmes designed to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability.

In addition to agriculture related issues, the meeting reviewed progress and pending matters under major rural development programmes including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed officials to prioritise the resolution of pending cases related to Madhya Pradesh so that farmers, rural labourers and economically weaker households receive timely benefits under these schemes.

Focus On Farmer Welfare And Rural Development

Speaking during the meeting, Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, special emphasis is being placed on strengthening the agricultural sector and improving the welfare of farmers.

He noted that the year 2026 is being observed as Farmers Welfare Year in Madhya Pradesh and that the central government is giving priority attention to agriculture dominated states such as Madhya Pradesh.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the government is committed to ensuring comprehensive support for farmers growing mustard, tur, moong, urad and other oilseeds and pulses.

He added that coordinated action between the central and state governments will help ensure that farmers receive timely assistance, improve agricultural productivity and strengthen rural livelihoods.

Strengthening Agricultural Support Systems

Officials said the decisions taken during the meeting are expected to provide immediate relief to farmers while strengthening long term support systems for agriculture and rural development in Madhya Pradesh.

The assurance of mustard price difference payments and full procurement of tur is expected to stabilise farm incomes and encourage continued cultivation of oilseeds and pulses in the state.

The review of major schemes such as crop insurance, employment programmes, rural housing and rural road development also reflects the government’s broader strategy to strengthen rural infrastructure and support sustainable agricultural growth.

The meeting concluded with directions to concerned departments to ensure speedy implementation of the decisions and close coordination between the central and state governments for effective delivery of benefits to farmers and rural communities.
