DU is committed to protecting its students from cyber fraud: Dr Vikas Gupta
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between University of Delhi (DU) and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. On the occasion, DU Registrar Dr Vikas Gupta stated that DU is deeply concerned about protecting its students from cyber fraud. “We have come across instances where female students (particularly those from weaker sections) fall victim to digital bullying and digital fraud. A minor mistake can lead to significant harm. We have entered into this MoU with these issues in mind,” he said.
Dr. Vikas Gupta added that the objective of this MoU is to promote the prevention of cybercrime, cyber hygiene, cyber awareness, capacity building, academic collaboration, research, internships, and student participation within the University.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar, University of Delhi and Nishant Kumar, Director, I4C, Ministry of Home Affairs. Speaking on the occasion, Nishant Kumar, Director of I4C, remarked that this partnership aims to foster a cyber-aware academic ecosystem through joint initiatives such as awareness programmes, workshops, seminars, hackathons, student competitions, internships, cyber volunteer engagement, and promotion of UGC-notified cyber security courses. It will also facilitate knowledge sharing and strengthen collaboration between academia and government in advancing cybersecurity education and digital resilience.
Prof. Sanjeev Singh, Director of the Delhi University Computer Centre, stated that under this collaboration, various joint activities would be organized, including cyber awareness programs, workshops, seminars, hackathons, student competitions, internships, cyber volunteer programs, experiential learning, and the dissemination of cybersecurity and cyber awareness courses notified by the UGC. Additionally, knowledge exchange, innovation, and institutional cooperation in the field of cybersecurity will be encouraged.
On this occasion Prof. K. Ratnabali, Dean Academic affairs and Several senior officials from DU and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) were present at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony.
