Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving head of a government in India, surpassing the previous record of 8,930 days held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.

In a statement, Amit Shah said Narendra Modi has completed 8,931 days in public office as head of a government, a period spanning his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and subsequently as Prime Minister. He described the milestone as one rooted in service, hard work and unwavering commitment to public life.

Amit Shah stated that Narendra Modi’s long tenure reflects a governance model anchored in a nation-first approach, integrity in decision-making and sustained efforts aimed at delivering outcomes for citizens across the country. He said the Prime Minister’s public life has been marked by consistent engagement with developmental priorities and a focus on inclusive growth.

Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Amit Shah noted that Narendra Modi has now exceeded the record set by Pawan Kumar Chamling, who had previously held the distinction as the longest-serving head of a government in India. The milestone places Narendra Modi at the forefront of political leadership longevity in the country’s democratic history.

Amit Shah said the period of governance under Narendra Modi has seen significant policy interventions aimed at expanding access to welfare benefits, strengthening infrastructure, enhancing economic growth and elevating India’s global standing. He added that the government’s initiatives have focused on delivering rights and entitlements to economically weaker sections while accelerating development across sectors.

He further said that the transformation witnessed during this period reflects sustained administrative effort and long-term vision, describing it as an era that has reshaped multiple aspects of governance and public service delivery. According to him, the emphasis on transparency, efficiency and accountability has contributed to strengthening institutional processes.

Referring to Narendra Modi’s work ethic, Amit Shah said the Prime Minister’s uninterrupted service to the nation for more than 24 years without taking a break underscores his commitment to public duty. He added that such consistency has played a role in building trust among citizens and strengthening public confidence in governance.

Amit Shah also highlighted that Narendra Modi has been elected three times as Gujarat Chief Minister and three times as Prime Minister, reflecting continued public endorsement. He said the sustained support from citizens is indicative of growing trust, acceptance and confidence in his leadership.

He concluded that Narendra Modi’s tenure represents a rare combination of longevity and continuity in governance, shaped by a focus on service delivery, development and national progress.
