CAQM Inspects Faridabad Roads Orders Corrective Action to Control Dust and Waste

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas carried out an extensive inspection of road stretches maintained by the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad on January 13, 2026, to assess the effectiveness of road dust mitigation measures and municipal solid waste management under intensified enforcement of the Graded Response Action Plan.

The inspection was undertaken as part of Operation Clean Air, with the objective of evaluating on ground implementation of mechanical sweeping, water sprinkling and overall road upkeep, and to identify locations vulnerable to visible dust emissions, waste accumulation and related violations that contribute to deteriorating air quality.

A total of nine inspection teams comprising officers from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and the Central Pollution Control Board were deployed for the exercise. The teams covered 127 road stretches across the city and submitted a consolidated report to the Commission supported by geo tagged and time stamped photographic evidence to ensure objective assessment and accountability.

The inspection findings indicated mixed compliance across the inspected stretches. While a significant number of roads showed satisfactory conditions with low or no visible dust, several locations were identified as requiring urgent intervention. Of the 127 stretches inspected, 17 recorded high levels of road dust and 25 showed moderate dust levels. Sixty six stretches were assessed as having low dust levels, while 19 stretches had no visible dust.

Road stretches with high dust levels were frequently associated with the accumulation of municipal solid waste and construction and demolition waste, particularly along major corridors, junctions and service roads. The inspection teams also reported isolated instances of open waste burning, which further aggravates local air pollution and violates statutory norms.

In view of the findings, the Commission directed the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad to take immediate and sustained corrective measures at identified hotspots. These include intensifying mechanical sweeping operations, ensuring regular and adequate water sprinkling, prompt lifting and scientific disposal of municipal solid waste and construction debris, and strict enforcement to prevent illegal dumping and open burning. The civic body has also been advised to strengthen its monitoring mechanisms and ensure uniform implementation of dust suppression measures across all road stretches to prevent re accumulation of dust.

The Commission stated that inspection and enforcement drives under Operation Clean Air will continue to be carried out regularly across the National Capital Region and adjoining areas to ensure strict compliance with statutory directions and Graded Response Action Plan measures. CAQM reiterated its commitment to coordinated action with state and local authorities to achieve clean, dust free and well maintained road infrastructure, contributing to sustained improvement in regional air quality.
