NSIC Elevated To Schedule A CPSE Status By MSME Ministry

The Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises has upgraded the National Small Industries Corporation Limited from Schedule B to Schedule A category Central Public Sector Enterprise, marking a significant institutional milestone for the organisation that has supported the MSME sector for over seven decades.

The upgradation was formalised through Notification No K 01 26 2024 SME dated February 26, 2026, issued by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. With this move, NSIC joins the top tier of public sector enterprises in terms of operational and financial powers, reflecting its performance, scale of operations and strategic importance in advancing MSME development nationwide.

The National Small Industries Corporation Limited, functioning under the Ministry of MSME, has been engaged in the promotion and development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises across the country for more than seventy years. Over this period, NSIC has emerged as a key facilitator in strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of small businesses.

NSIC provides comprehensive support to MSMEs across their entire lifecycle. Its interventions include skilling and capacity building programmes, initiatives to enhance cost competitiveness, marketing assistance, credit facilitation and growth capital support through equity investments. The Corporation also acts as an implementation partner for several flagship and aspirational programmes of the Government of India aimed at expanding industrial growth and entrepreneurship.

The elevation to Schedule A status is expected to enhance NSIC’s management autonomy and operational flexibility. The recognition strengthens its institutional standing and is likely to further improve its ability to deliver targeted support to MSMEs, especially in areas requiring quicker decision making and expanded financial authority.

NSIC has consistently demonstrated strong performance metrics. It received Excellent ratings from the Department of Public Enterprises for the financial year 2024 25, underscoring its operational efficiency and sustained contribution to the MSME ecosystem. The rating reflects the continuous efforts of the NSIC team in driving programmes that enhance productivity, competitiveness and market access for small enterprises.

The upgradation reinforces the Government’s emphasis on empowering MSMEs as a core driver of economic growth, employment generation and regional development. By strengthening NSIC’s institutional capacity, the Ministry of MSME has sought to further accelerate support mechanisms for small businesses and align them with national development objectives.
